Crocheting and Dramas?

I just relearned to crochet tonight (winter beanies). My friend (who was a first time crocheter^_^) and I commented on how the directions are like a foreign language to us... to which I replied, "maybe I should subtitle those directions". She readily said, yes, add that to your other subtitle jobs.

My friends and family members are quite aware of my obsession to drama watching but to what extent. Well, it's not like it's a secret.^_^ There are things I do that make it obvious.

Things that make my obsession more obvious are:
- when I can't listen to any thing else but Korean Drama OSTs in the car
-when it's Christmas season, and I bust out SMtown as I try to follow along... some times as they sing in English, finding myself singing with a Korean accent to follow suit
-when asked if I read a lot, I say, "if you count subtitles... I get a lot of reading done there"
-with bags under my eyes, some might ask if I had a long night... I may reply, I just kept wanting to watch what was going to happen next on *my drama
-when on the phone, my sister asks "are you downloading something again" as the reception is not as clear when doing so, knowing that I download *my dramas on a regular basis
-*I call them "my dramas"

Things that I have found easy enough to accomplish While watching a drama:
-folding laundry (put this to the test many of times)... constant head up and down but very doable
-crocheting... yes, I think this one would be possible
Okay, I haven't got much else here...

Maybe you can help add to the list. What is some thing productive that you have been able to accomplish while reading subtitles and watching a drama?

Fansubber's diaries - sayroo #1

http://www.hoteltravelcheck.com/princeville/kauai-luxury-vacation-rental.jpg

I'm currently in a long-weekend vacation due to holidays in our place and I feel great just thinking about it. It starts today, and I promised to catch up on my dramas, including Joseon X-Files, GLORIA, Flames of Ambition & Daemul. And I'm glad that I have finally finished Dr. Champ after ignoring it for quite some weeks now.

Considering all of that, I have to add in the subbing duties I have in hand.
Point is, I love this long weekend vacation as I get to spend more times on my dramas and net life and not actually care about anything. Ain't life amazing with these dramas?

Happy drama-watching to everyone!

As what they said:
A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking.  ~Earl Wilson

Favorite Kiss at Playful Kiss

http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4u2c.jpg

Though it may be hard to accept the fact that Playful Kiss has already ended, memories are still within us. Especially our favorite scenes that some of us watch over and over again. (Guilty?) And this drama offered a lot (yes, a lot!) of emotions and kisses as well. It really lived up to its title, 'Playful Kiss'.
As I was snooping around at soompi last time, I encountered a compiled post of all the kisses in the 16-episodes they aired at the station, MBC and the special YOUTUBE episodes. There were a total of 15 kisses. (13 are literally, lip-lock, lol, and 2 were a peck from the lips & the cheeks). How awesome is this show? haha.
Anyway, I'm sure some of you already had a favorite scene in mind, obviously it would be the, what they call, 'Rain Kiss' that happened at Episode 13. But here are the compiled one's from soompi. Check them out after the cut.

An Ode to Meju

(by rambutan)

I have a drooling-leching mate in Haru Haru.

She is non other than Korean translator, Meju.

Always snickering at others over the whole fangirly thing,

One day we turned into mush balls watching Kang Suk on screen.

Why we lech after that stuffy, gruff man we don’t understand.

But he sure stirs our hearts like no male star now can.

One day I asked her to translate a Gloria song.

Immediately, she launched a disclaimer about a mile long.

“I'm not literal, I translate as would normal English sound,

Yet capturing the essence as would the words expound.

My translation takes note of both mood and tone

Based on these, the seed of my translation is sown.”

Meju's translations of GLORIA are a delight and a treat.

She makes those who time her episodes squeee! and squeak.

Methuongcon: “Oh Meju, your translations are so easy to time!”

And Starstruck, Hitomi and KimT sang the same chimes.

Actually, not only timers, but others sing their praises, too.

Fore said: “If Meju joins TEAM GLORIA, it will be a coup.”

Men - Women jokes

Q: Why doesn't law permit a man to marry a second woman?
A: Because as per law you cannot be punished twice for the same offence.

------------ --------- ---

Man: Is there any way for long life?
Dr.: Get married.
Man: Will it help?
Dr.: No, but the thought of long life will never come.

------------ --------- ---

Wife: Darling today is our anniversary, what should we do?
Husband: Let us stand in silence for 2 minutes.

--------------------- ---

Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you say.
After marriage, he'll fall asleep before you finish.

------------------------

There's a way of transferring funds that is even faster than electronic banking.
It's called marriage.

------------------------

Prospective husband: Do you have a book called 'Man, The Master of Women'?
Salesgirl: Sir, the Fiction department is on the other side.

------------------------

There was this guy who told his woman that he loved her so much that he would go through hell for her. They got married, and now he is going through hell.

------------------------

Fact of life: One woman brings you into this world crying & the other ensures you continue to do so for the rest of your life!

P.S. A guy who's happily married tells me only the joke about the bank account is true.

A Song for Ai* on her Birthday

(Lyrics only! ^_^)

HaruHaru Subs has a translator named Ai*

She once signed for a job, asking “May I?”

I was passing by, and quickly replied “Aye!”

Her translation skills one can easily admire

From her pen, words come alive, as if on fire

Ai’s* language skills is one to which I should aspire

Happy Birthday, Ai*!

Kdramas in 2076

I accidentally wrote 2076 this morning when relaying back what year I started watching dramas and all the fun stuff that comes along with that.

2006 watched a kdrama on television
2007 watched a kdrama via computer

I realized that I may still be alive in 2076, enjoying my life as more than likely a great grandmother, and wondered where the life of kdrama viewing would be at that point in the century.

Hum, I do know when my obsession started and that it is still going strong 4 years later.
__________________________________________________________________
It was in 2006 as I came upon a Korean station on regular cable... through the use of a good old tv antenna. So, yes, with an antenna, the station would sometimes be clear to view and at other times static would appear.

I did not know at the time but later came to realize that one of the first dramas I watched on television was "Lovers in Harvard." It was probably around episode 7 or so. There was another drama I came across as well. All I remember is that there were not any subtitles at the time but I was intrigued by this arguing attractive couple as well as what appeared to be an estranged relationship between a parent and daughter. There was tennis involved too.^_^

Believe it or not, I came to watch a DVD with actual subtitles when running into a kind young lady around my age... as I was at the park. Dramas came up in conversation, and the next time we met we were exchanging a check for a drama in the middle of that same park^_^... her sister had recently returned from a trip to Singapore and was able to purchase kdramas there for a reasonable price.

I never was able to keep in contact with her, but she will remain in my memories as the person that helped sprout my connection to Korean Dramas.

That dvd lead to trying desperately to find more dvds online... a random online store called dimsum dvds, amazon, and YesAsia. After collecting about 12 different copies of various dramas, I came to realize that it had not been an easy task to find them with excellent subtitles, and fansubbing was my number one choice^_^.
__________________________________________________________________

Thinking back...
2006:
*purchased a kdrama in the park for 20 bucks, "Lovers in Paris"
*was given two kdrama dvds from a friend, "Winter Sonata" and "Autumn Tales"
*stumbled upon downloading dramas via Bww2 Forum, started with "Goong"
*still was trying to purchase dvds to add to my small collection, introduced to Rain from "Full House"^_^
*subsequently realized that Korean Pop Music and Sound Tracks were going to be a part of this journey!!!

2007:
*between purchasing dramas on the various online resources, downloaded MISA (and was in love might I add as I watched it well into the early morning!)
*oh and did I mention... upon purchasing just a few dramas online, I found myself collecting more kmovies than dramas (those were easier to find with English subs for a descent price), first one to watch "A Millionaire's First Love"... Hyun and I became friends at first glimpse! (right there in that parking garage as he was fighting off the goons and had his snotty attitude^_^)
*tried a streaming site that cost money and IT WAS NOT THE SAME... needed higher quality viewing^_^
*visited Vietnam and purchased about three dramas at a very low price (one being Vietnamese dubbed in one voice^_^) and others with missing subtitles/ heard a song from Full House's OST while riding in a taxi there and realized the impact of Korean Dramas throughout other Asian countries.

2008:
*my mother started getting involved and even picked me up a drama from her visit in San Diego... the lady at the counter convinced her to purchase "Glass Slipper"... So Ji Sub^_^
*got the bug again to add to my collection of dramas... looked for sales on YesAsia for dramas I really enjoyed with WithS2's subtitles, one particularly being "Thank You"
*soon realized that SOME dramas are NOT THE SAME without fansubbed subtitles (okay or I've just become extremely picky^_^)...

2009:
*became a part of Haru Haru Subs team and loving it!
*now that I knew how to use VLC, join files, change names of subtitles to match the .avi file, I was ready to put my knowledge of also resyncing .srt files to a great art called Timing^_^

2010:
*looking back I see that my obsession with watching Korean Dramas has evolved to a love for a vast amount of Asian Entertainment... I mean who can resist Yamapi^_^.

An Ode to Cute Girl on her birthday today

Cute Girl is an Admin of Haru Haru Subs.

She cares for children as though they were her cubs.

A teacher who is often over-worked and tired,

yet she manages to stay calm, sane and inspired.

"What is your secret for keeping sane?" I asked.

She said, “It is those children in whom I bask.”

Happy Birthday, cute girl!

A little rant in a rainy day!

Today is my first day trying to watch a Korean drama live. I mean today is the first day I tried live streaming and it was amazing. Maybe because the episode is amazing or maybe because the fact that the software works amazed me. Either reasons, I'm still more than happy to watch it live at the same time as it was broadcast in Korean. How cool is that!

Well, the reason behind this post is not streaming. lol The reason is that I have just watched Playfull Kiss ep 10. Let me tell you why that is important enough to write a post. Because I just finished watching the ep 2 yesterday, today I jumped to ep 10. o_O

Yes, I do have all the 8 eps in my hard drive. Yes, I know we has released sub until ep 4. AND yes, I know I had to time part of ep 2 and 8 but I actually did not watch any other parts except for the one I time. I am the weird one I guess. Most of the series that I have participated I haven't finished any of them. ( A man called god, Smile you, Gloria, and Coffee House... even though Coffee House might be the one that I watched more than others since I had lots of part to time in it.)

You can say because when I time, I have to listen to the ep too much, I just cannot watch it any more. Or you can say, I have no more free time to watch. If I have free time, I rather use it to finish one more ep or recheck a timing part. Or simply just use more time for family that I don't actually have much besides my student's life.

Meaning of this, since I joined fansub team, I did sacrifice my own pleasure. Just like Citrone said in the previous post, we, subbers, do have lives outside of subbing. If I had continued to be just a watcher, I could have had time to watch more series, or could have had time to do other hobbies. Sometimes I do wonder why I chose this path, then I remembered my desire to help others and wanting for sub to get out faster.

Of course, we do want to release sub as fast as possible. Why would we want to keep the sub if it's already ready? What benefit do we have to keep our readers, or dare I say, our fans to wait for us? Seeing all the red and deleted comments makes me wonder if anyone wants to understand this point of view.

I don't know why just from watching a live streaming makes me so emotional. Maybe because of the rain that San Diego has after a very hot week, or because of the fact that I was gonna wake up early to study and ended up watching drama.

Anyway, I am signing out. (back to finish my HW)

What about... without Subs?

So, you know that as fansubbers, there must be an obsession more than with just text and computer softwares.

It goes beyond the joy of trying to figure out which text editor software works best with your computer or expanding your knowledge of Korean terms through timing translations. It goes beyond seeing how fast your typing skills have improved or how fast a desktop dictionary can assist when checking on a word at hand.

It's the mere joy of watching a Korean Drama.

I was able to watch the first episode of "Fugitive/Plan B" at my friend's house.
She is Korean and downloaded the first episode. She wasn't able to translate much for me between our children's requests, but I got the gist of it, and we both agreed that we will rewatch it with our hubbies. In turn, they will get to enjoy the "James Bond" like comedy and suspense as we get to enjoy some eye candy. Although, Henney had yet to make himself known in the first episode. ^_^

Happy Subbing and Happy Watching... from one fansubber to another and from one fan to another!

Fansubbing...

Up at 5, should be in bed
Checked the Shout Box to see what was has been said
Tempted to get a little more timing done
But figured I'm better off waiting for the sun
You know my four little ones will wake me before hand
But I'll go back to bed and later do what I can

... more to come

Working in a team parody~

There were four people called Everybody,
Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was
an important job to be done. Everybody was
sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody
could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it
was Everybody's job. Everybody thought
Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that
Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that
Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody
did what Anybody could have done.

A fansubber's Nigthmare!!!

Seriously right now i can't download any raws and it kills me that i have such a thing called "internet limit". I mean really Australia is so very behind on technology that we either have to pay and arm and a leg for unlimited or in my case pay $100 for 240GB which is not much for a family of 5 who lives, eats, and breaths internet!

Anyways... for a translator i would think this would be a bitch, but i'm just an editor which has it's perks ~ though reading an .srt file and looking for mistakes and errors is a b*tch and a whole lot boring without access to a video file!

Also from this day forth i shall be known as Loco Moco!
Peace out <3
